Gayatri Datar is the founder of EarthEnable, a Rwandan start-up. Gayatri is one of the five finalists of the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge 2017. A semester in college spent doing tsunami relief work in India led her to conclude that she wanted to spend the rest of her life making a difference. While at Stanford, she signed up for a class from the famous D School, Design for Extreme Affordability.

They were tasked with coming up with solutions to general problems, such as “how might you improve health outcomes in the developing world?” She knew that by replacing dirt floors, health issues would decline significantly, but the only viable solution on the market was cement, which has a large carbon footprint and is expensive when compared to the income of these residents. Thus the idea for EarthEnable was born. Gayatri Datar holds a BA in Economics from Harvard College, an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and an MPA in International Development from the Harvard Kennedy School.
