Yesterday at 12:00 CEST the entry period of the Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge closed. In total, 1,167 green start-ups submitted their business plan before the deadline and entered this year's edition. 

€1 million in combined prize money
All the 1,167 submitted applications are still in the running to reach the finale on 3 October and win €500,000 for their green business plan. There is a total of €1 million in combined prize money for the five best start-ups: €500,000 is intended for the winner. Another €200,000 is reserved for the runner-up. The other three finalists will win €100,000. In addition to the prize money, all finalists will receive over six months of expert coaching to optimise their business opportunities.

About the green start-ups
This year the total number of applications is again a record-breaking number. Last year already we saw a significant growth when we received a record of 845 submitted entries. This number jumped to 1,167 applications this year.

Most entrants are from The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Germany. The top five categories in which entries were submitted are:

  • Recycling/ circularity
  • Food & Agriculture
  • Clean energy
  • Mobility & transportation
  • Artificial intelligence/ machine learning

The road to the final
27 June the preliminary jury will announce 25 nominees on our website. Early September we shall announce which five start-ups will go to the finale. These five finalists will be invited to Amsterdam to pitch their plan before an internationally acclaimed jury on 3 October.
