The judging of the Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge is a four-stage process. In the first stage, after the entry period has closed, the preliminary juries from Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden will review the entries from their region and will then select the applications that may proceed to the second stage to finish the complete application. After all the entries of the second stage have been reviewed, the 25 best start-ups will be selected as nominees. These entrepreneurs will still be in the running to win the first prize of €500,000.

Representatives from each preliminary jury will decide which five start-ups will move on to the final. These finalists will present their ideas to an international jury, media and selected audience during the grand final which will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Each of the five finalists of the Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge will receive a minimum of €100,000, the runner-up will receive €200,000 and the winner will take the grand prize of € 500,000. In addition to the prize money, all finalists will receive expert coaching for over six months in order to optimise their business opportunities.
