Lex Hoefsloot from the Netherlands is one of the five finalists of the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge 2017. His love for electric cars started when he was in university. As a student, he co-founded the award-winning Solar Team Eindhoven.

In 2013, he showed the world that it was possible to create an energy-efficient family car by winning the World Solar Challenge Cruiser Class. His next step was to make a sexy and user-friendly solar car, and more importantly, to make it independent of the infrastructure of charging stations. Currently, charging station coverage is insufficient to really force a breakthrough in electric driving. His solution is a car that can be charged using household power outlets and the sun; a car that can charge anywhere. That’s why he founded Lightyear. Lex holds a Master of Science in Engineering and is specialised in Automotive Technology.
