"Black Bear brings the circular economy to tires and has developed innovative technology to extract high quality carbon black from waste tires, allowing carbon black users to move away from the ‘polluting’ carbon black that is currently produced from crude oil. Carbon black is used as a reinforcing agent in tires and rubber, and as pigment in coatings, plastics and inks.

Globally over 14 million tons of carbon black is used each year, requiring over 175 million barrels of oil. Black Bear’s circular solution solves the issues posed by the more than 1 billion tires that come to the end of their life each year, and has the potential to unlock a huge positive environmental impact. Each ton of carbon black produced by Black Bear saves 2.5 tons of oil and 5 tons of CO₂. For each installation, that’s more CO₂ than 1 million trees can consume. Moreover, there are enough waste tires to build over 1200 installations!

Black Bear is already producing carbon black with its first commercial facility in the Netherlands. The quality of this carbon black has been validated by over 50 customers, including major tire manufacturers and paint manufacturers. Black Bear is now ramping up production capacity to fulfil orders of these launching customers. In summary, Black Bear solves the issue of waste tires and at the same time reduces CO₂ emissions as well as oil consumption through their innovative and circular solution."
